Common Air Conditioning Problems

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

When one speaks about air conditioning in Jacksonville, we come to know that there is a constant rise in the demands of air conditioning systems, since Jacksonville is a hot and humid city in Florida. With the ris in demands of air conditioning systems there is also the same intensity of growth in the number of air conditioning problems and consequently, rise in demands of air conditioning services. Similarly, the rise in AC repair and maintenance service providers too. “What are the common air conditioning problems and how can we fix it?” This is the topic I will write about today giving more stress to the air conditioning problems faced by the people of Jacksonville, Florida

Problem with your air conditioning means that your house or your office is no longer cooled adequately and living in a place like Jacksonville, this can be a huge problem. Air conditioning problems range from excess noise to unwanted precipitation which might need professionals’ help. Fortunately, there are some simple ways to identify common air conditioning problems on your own if you want to attempt your own AC repair or give a hint of the problem to the air conditioning repair technician. The most common air conditioning compliant is that the air conditioner makes a loud annoying noise. This problem if not checked can cause loud deafening noise making you and your neighbors uneasy. This is mainly caused by dislodging of the fan belt and due to the need for lubrication in the bearings of the motor. To fix it, check the fan belt and also lubricate the bearings of the motor. This problem doesn’t demand the need of AC repair technicians. Another normal problem that often arises is frozen coils. At times the heat pump fails to play its role causing the coils to freeze and in turn block the air flow. An AC repair expert’s help or checking the calibration can solve the problem.

You might have seen water leaking inside your house from your air conditioning units. This may be because of a rusted condensation pan or blockage in the draining pipe. Check out the condensation pan and for any blockages in the draining hose to solve this particular air conditioning problem.

Most common air conditioning failure problem is blocked grill. To solve this problem, simply disassemble the air conditioner (make sure you turn off the power before doing that) which will give you an easy access to the parts of the AC like the fins, fans, motor and other parts.  Wipe these parts clean taking the caution that you don’t move any electrical parts wet. Remove the grill and clean it. Re-arrange the parts and try running it again setting the temperature of the thermostat well below normal temperature.

When the above provided information doesn’t make any difference, the following harder-to-spot air conditioning problems might hold the answer:
•    Broken Thermostat
•    Freon Leakage
•    AC Short Circuited to the ground
For a broken thermostat, replacing the same will solve the problem but for the later two, you might need the help of AC repair experts.

Home Heating-Furnaces to Space Heaters, Inspections are Important

The thought of snow, cold and blowing winds lead to thoughts of warm blankets, furnaces and glowing fires. Home heating is a very important subject in most parts of the country, everything from furnaces to space heaters are used to keep the house toasty warm for our return from the “frozen tundra.”

The heating sources that are used can lead to dire consequences if used improperly. Space heaters, for example are responsible for numerous house fires every year. The use of these devises for home heating requires responsibility and constant awareness of the safety issues they present. However, the use of space heaters can be a way to lower heating costs when the price of heating fuel rises by allowing you to use electricity instead.

When shopping for a space heater look for a model that stays cool to the touch and that has a wide base. These two options will make the heater safer to operate. Never use a space heater around a child, even if that child is asleep, the effect of a burn from the unit can be devastating. The chance of a child waking up and stumbling into the heater causing it to tip over and catch on fire is too great to risk.

When preparing your home heating plan for the winter season, it is not enough just to turn the furnace on and hope for the best, it needs to be serviced on a yearly basis to ensure its safety and reliability. Without this inspection, you could, literally be playing with fire.

The furnace inspection will consist of a visual inspection, cleaning of the furnace, detection of carbon monoxide (CO) as well as the checking the burner, ducts and pilot light. This is a short list of what an inspection consists of, but is a good indicator of what to expect when the licensed professional knocks on your door.

The visual portion of the inspection will help to detect any cracks that may exist in the heat exchanger. These cracks may result in the leakage of carbon monoxide fumes into the home. The flue will also be tested for the reason of detecting carbon monoxide (CO) gasses that may leak from the furnace. To be on the safe side, it is best to install a carbon monoxide (CO) detector in the main sleeping areas of the home to warn of a possible danger.

The inspectors will also be cleaning the furnace ducts of dust that has accumulated throughout the summer. Dust can be combustible therefore, it is necessary to remove it before starting the furnace. The burner and pilot light will also be inspected to ensure that they are working properly.

Follow these tips when heating your home this winter and sleep peacefully at night knowing that you have done you duty to protect your family, when they are snuggled in their beds as well.

Air Conditioning Filters Basics

We examine the risks of indoor air pollution and a lot of problem in their home I think not. This idea can be dangerous to your health and your family very sure.

The real city, many people, the great outdoors than in indoor air pollution Hyporhamphus sajori worse air sometimes. If the case, this is a question we spend a lot of time may cause a health, clean air to breathe that surprising.Medical experts confirm that many respiratory diseases are on the rise, could the indoor air be the culprit?

That is the bad news, the good news is the problem is neither too difficult nor expensive to solve. Air conditioning filters have been greatly improved and now offer excellent performance at a reasonable cost. We refer to air conditioning filters but the term furnace filters could be used interchangeably.

Indoor air pollution is usually invisible yet it consists primarily of three ingredients; soot, smoke and fumes. Many contaminates will settle from the air to surfaces with in our homes. This would seem to be a good thing until you realize that daily activities will cause some of them to become air born, again and again.

There are many manufacturers of air filters and even more varieties available. Industry watchdogs have conducted tests of many of the products and they confirm excellent filtering is readily available. To assist consumers in comparing the filters the MERV performance scale has been implemented. This allows for a way to quickly compare filtersbased on real world testing and not unfounded claims made by the manufacturers.

Your home’s clean air is only limited by your budget and perhaps the current airconditioning system in your home. We say that because some systems will not be able to operate properly with all types of filters. An example would be a HEPA filter, most systems are not designed for use with such a restrictive filter.

It should go with out saying that any filter you use must be changed before becoming excessively dirty. The recommended change intervals are a good starting point but if your area is very dusty or you have several pets you may need to change your air conditioning filter more often than recommended. Your health may depend on it.

Picking The Best Furnaces For Your Home

If you are looking for ways in which to make your home more efficient with regards to energy, this is a good time. The truth is that there are different types, some with more benefits and reduced costs. So, it has probably crossed your mind as to how to pick the best furnaces for the home.

There are obvious choices: oil, gas and electric. Let’s examine each to help you decide. The gas is often the most affordable choice when compared to the others, but burns fuel. But, this is only the case where gas is actually available. The problem is that it must be checked annually to ensure that all is well and no carbon monoxide is seeping into the home.

The oil option is the least favorable, being the worst for the environment and of late, getting too expensive to operate because of the high costs of crude oil which are rising annually. There is also the issue of smell, in some cases. The electric furnace can be more costly, however is the cleanest option.

The important thing is that you research the subject and ensure that you are purchasing a product from manufacturers that have a good reputation and offer a good warranty. Although the price might be higher in the beginning, you will reduce the likelihood of having expensive repairs, or worse, have to replace it before its lifespan is up.

Make sure you purchase the highest efficiency furnace possible. The best are 96% efficient while the worst at 60%. That means that those on the bottom end of the scale will be using more energy to heat their homes.

Also look at the various features that will make your home more comfortable. Things like the fans, 2 speed fans, the variable capacity and the amount of noise the item will produce. Don’t forget to inquire about the affect it will have on the cost of your cooling system as well.

Saving Energy in the Workplace

Business owners and managers can save substantial money and energy with little to no investment, says Jack Taylor, Power Director for the City of Santa Clara.

Following is a list of seven simple ways businesses can save energy, and encourage their employees do the same:

1. Turn off lights, computers, and other equipment when they are not in use. Show employees how to enable the energy-saver mode on their computers.

2. Install programmable thermostats that automatically lower the heat at quitting time during cold weather or raise the temperature at the end of each summer day. You could cut your heating and cooling costs by a third.

3. Post reminders for employees to close doors turn off bathroom lights and shut off faucets.

4. Change or clean filters in heating and air conditioning systems every month. You’ll pay about $3 per filter, but it can save your business $5 or more a month.

5. Arrange for an annual, professional tune-up of your heating and air conditioning systems. This will increase operating efficiency and could prevent costly emergency repairs.

6. Run ceiling fans to move indoor air around so employees feel more comfortable. Using a fan will allow you to raise the thermostat by up to five degrees in the summer, which can save your business up to 15 percent on cooling costs.

7. As light bulbs burn out, replace them with lower-wattage compact fluorescent lights (CFLs), which last up to 10 times longer than traditional bulbs or tubes and use a fraction of the energy.

Don’t forget to let your community know about your efforts to save energy, you will encourage others, and build good will for your business in your community.

Air Conditioning Tips

Air conditioning units will work for many years with very little difficulty, if you keep your system properly maintained. However, this is not peculiar to home air conditioning systems. Nearly everything we do these days can be done with the aid of a mechanical or electrical device. However, some things are non-user maintainable and will break down after a while.

Home air conditioning systems are intended to last a long time, as long as they are correctly maintained. If you are loathe to do this maintenance yourself, you will need to call in a professional, but there is a lot of maintenance anyone can carry out. Even the most ham-fisted klutz. If you carry out these straightforward cool air conditioning tips, you will only need a professional’s help once every two years, which will save you a lot of money.

There are three fundamental varieties of fixed home air conditioning units: central air conditioners; split air conditioners and room air conditioners. There is also a fourth type, the portable conditioner, but there are too many types of these to generalize.

Central Air Conditioners – this is made up of an indoor unit and an outdoor unit. You can clean or change the air filter in the indoor apparatus according to its type. Wire filters can be cleaned, glass fibre filters must be replaced. You ought to do this monthly during the hot season in order to maintain peak performance and air quality.

You should also wash any dust or grease from the fan blades. Lightly oil the fan shaft and any bearings too. If your system is belt driven make sure that the belt is not worn and that it is neither too taut nor too slack, which means that there should be some give, but that it should not be so loose as to slip. Similar to a car’s fan belt. Degrease and cleanse the coil of tubing.

The outside system should be treated in the same manner as the inside unit, but you should also clear any undergrowth or rubbish from around it to allow an unobstructed airflow. If it is in direct sunlight while in operation, put up a lean-to to give it shade and shelter from rain and snow in the winter.

Split Air Conditioning Systems – the outdoor unit should be serviced as above, but the indoor air handler is different as there is no fan pushing air through a structure of ducts. At least once a year, remove the internal filter and wash it or clean it according to the maker’s handbook. If you do this often enough, you will not have to clean the coil.

If you miss a few maintenance sessions, wash the coil as above. Service the outside box as above as well.

Room Air Conditioners – take out the grille and wash or replace the filter at least once every summer. Filters can normally be washed three times and then ought to be replaced. If you fail to do this, you will have to wash the coil, as above. In the winter, cover the grille with cling film or a tarp, to prevent cold drafts.

A Gas Furnace Or an Oil Furnace?

Picking out the right heating option for a home is extremely important. There are many different types of furnaces, such as a gas, electric and oil burning. These are the two most popular types that are used in homes today. Each have their advantages and disadvantages, so it’s really up to each consumer to decide what he or she wants. This article will help with this big decision by discussing the pros and cons of both a gas and oil heating unit as well as provide an overall conclusion at the end.

One of the biggest misconceptions people have about gas furnaces is that they don’t use any electricity, but the truth is that they actually do use some electricity. A gas furnace has a blower motor that is run on only electricity, which is really the only downfall of a gas heating unit. The advantages to using a gas furnace to heat a home is that they tend to burn cleanly, have high AFUE ratings, gas is usually a lot cheaper than oil, and the overall design has been improved to make any gas furnace extremely efficient.

One of the biggest advantages of oil furnaces is that oil is almost always readily available as other fuels, such as propane or natural gas aren’t. However, an oil furnace sure does have a lot of disadvantages. An oil furnace doesn’t burn as cleanly as a gas furnace, they aren’t very efficient, they use a lot of electricity, they need to be constantly cleaned, clogs aren’t uncommon, and it’s also hard to control the amount of heat being pushed out by an oil furnace.

When comparing an oil furnace to a gas one, it’s easy to see that gas furnaces are the sure way to go. They don’t require a lot of maintenance like an oil unit does, they’re cheaper to run, they burn cleanly, and they are very efficient. While oil seems to be always readily available, it’s highly unlikely that one would not be able to find propane or natural gas to keep their gas furnace running, which eliminates the only real benefit of an oil furnace. I hope this article has been beneficial to those wondering about what kind of furnace to install in their home.

Air Conditioner and Central Air Conditioning System- What The Difference?

The difference between an air conditioning system or central air conditioner and a window or wall mounted AC unit is the amount of air that can be cooled. A window or wall mounted air conditioner can only cool the air in one room. An air conditioner can cool the air in an entire home or building.

Air Conditioning Systems Could Save You Money

Contrary to popular belief, an air conditioner may actually be cheaper to operate than air conditioning units. The reason for this is that the air conditioning system requires only conditioner with a fan that blows cool air through the entire house. This will use electricity than several air conditioners and cost less money in the wrong one.

The installation of an air conditioner can be fairly cheap if you have forced air heating. In forced air heating the air is warmed in a furnace and blow through the home using a system of ducts and vents. The same ducts and vents that are used for heating can be used for air conditioning as well.

In many cases all that is needed to do to add air conditioning to your heating system is to add a central air conditioner. There are also modern systems called heat pumps that can combine the functions of an air conditioner and a furnace.

Installation of an Air Conditioning System

An air conditioner will usually have to be installed by a HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning technician). This is often the same person who installs your furnace.

The cost of the system will be fairly cheap if you have forced air heat. If you have heating vents in your home you have forced air heat. If you use radiators for heat, you have hot water heat which means you will have to have vents for air conditioning installed. You may also need to get vents for air conditioning installed if you live in a warm climate and don’t have a heating system.

If you need to get vents installed, it could be cheaper to install air conditioners in all the rooms of your home. There are modern air conditioners called baseboard or ductlessair conditioners which can be smaller and cheaper than traditional wall mounted air conditioners.

Other Advantages to an Air Conditioning System

A big advantage to air conditioning system is that like a heating system it can be centrally controlled from a thermostat. This means that a person will be able to have more control over the temperature in a building or a home.

Something that people should be aware of is that in areas with high humidity, air conditioners don’t always work because the water in the air counteracts their effects. This means that a person may need to install a dehumidifier. A dehumidifier is a device that takes water of the air. Such a device can be easily attached to an air conditioning system.

If a person in the home has respiratory problems or a weakened immune system the family may need to install air filters on the HVAC. This are devices that clean the air and make it safer for a sick person to breathe.

Developed after prolonged Air conditioning Energy efficiency standards has finally and soon to be implemented.

Reporter recently learned from the National Development and Reform Commission departments, the new \”room air conditioner energy efficiency and energy efficiency level limit value\” has enacted a mandatory national standard, and will be come into force on June 1st.

Learned, as early as 2007, the National Standardization Management Committee will be just two years of implementation of the \”room air conditioners Energy Efficiency of limited value and energy efficiency rating \”into the standard plan.

\”Standard of room air conditioner combines the relevant domestic and international regulations and standards, energy efficiency status, technical progress, have already reached the international advanced level.\” Of experts who participated in standards development, told reporters that the new energy efficiency standards The next step will be energy-saving product certification, the implementation of energy efficiency labeling system, the government energy procurement and energy-saving incentive policies to provide important technical support.

China Electronic Chamber of Commerce Deputy Secretary-General Lu Renbo said the new standards have been with the relevant laws and regulations and energy saving and emission reduction plan to achieve convergence. \”Made a higher standard for air-conditioning industry is the trend, not against but for the power enterprises, more importantly, capable of upgrading the formation of the Forced trend, to complete the transformation of energy saving products.\”

Reporter found that the new standard compared with the old standards, energy efficiency rating from the current level of 5 standard reduced to three levels. Among them, 1 that the highest energy efficiency, evaluating values of energy efficiency level 2 said that the evaluation of air conditioning products are the minimum requirements for energy conservation, energy efficiency, said three limit values, that is, after the introduction of product standards to achieve market access threshold.

Currently, 80% of household air-conditioning refrigeration capacity 4500W rated below the air-conditioning, in the new energy efficiency standards in the 1,2,3-level corresponding to the energy efficiency value of 3.6,3.4,3.2, and the existing standard was 3.4 3.2,3.0,2.8,2.6.

\”Air conditioning is a major household appliances in China, but the huge energy consumption and annual power consumption at 100 billion kwh over, especially in the use of centralized air-conditioning in summer, peak load could account for 30% to 40%, air-conditioning energy consumption has led to limitations in many provinces. So to improve air conditioning efficiency indicators can save a lot of power, while effectively address differences in peak and valley, reduce peak load electricity. \”The experts told reporters that the preliminary estimates, the implementation of standards can be 3.3 billion kwh in electricity saving. Preparing for the new standard air-conditioning giant

According to report, the new standard by the National Development and Reform Commission, the national energy infrastructure and management of Standardization Technical Committee, the Chinese Institute of Standardization, Beijing Industrial University, Qingdao Haier, Gree, Guangdong America\’s other co-drafting, Qingdao Haier and Gree as the business side involved in the new standards.

Reporters call the two companies, Haier air conditioning, told reporters that the responsible person, Haier has been prepared in advance, as early as July 2008 on the proposed phase-out inefficient products, launched a full range of energy saving products. \”At present, Haier air conditioning has been completed a new level of energy efficiency products, preparation, lower than the standard product is no longer under development and production.\”

High standards for the implementation of the air conditioning prices, the official said, will be adjusted according to market conditions, but will not be cheap products out of the situation of the old and new standards will not affect this year\’s Haier Sell Target.

Types of Furnaces

Let us first answer the question, what is a furnace? A furnace is a device that generates heat, for example a heater. Furnaces can be used to heat up homes or to burn materials like molding.

Different types of Furnaces

Home Furnace

Most home in the USA have them to keep us warm during the winter months they are used to heat our homes and other things like hot water. They have several different fuels available, such as coal, wood, electric, oil and gas.

The common types of home furnaces are condensation and combustion, Condensation furnaces get the heat from recycling from the exhaust gases and the second one combustion will require you too have an exhaust and will use the burning of fuels to create heat.

Furnaces will have different heat distribution methods, some will use steam or water to move around the heat where as others will suck in cold air and heat it up before moving the hot air around the room or home.

Metallurgical Furnace

This type of furnaces will use heat for industrial use such as reducing iron ore to pig iron, smelting, remelting and moulding metal. Each type of job they are used for require high temperatures and calls for a special type of furnace.

Industrial Furnace

This type of furnace is used for providing heat for a production process or heat for a reactor. These industrial furnaces are custom designed for its purpose and will come with custom heating manner, type of fuel etc.

They also have some common parts and fuel is fed into a burner and air is blown in to create the intense heat that is required.

Incinerating Furnaces

Incinerating furnaces, or incinerators as they are more commonly known are used for the burning of waste etc. They could be classed as industrial furnaces but they do not aid in the production process, the manner of design and type of fuels are much like the industrial furnaces.
